Dechire par la Distance

"Nice"

date: July 31, 2008

Hey, this is very well-written, but as an entry into the MAC8 contest, I don't think its very sad at all. At least not to me. When I listen to this song it actually sounds pretty happy to me. Hmm, just my opinion. Good luck in the contest.

Author's Response:

Well what I was trying to prove was that the submissions to this mac didn't have to be in a minor key for the majority of the piece. For example, one of Musical Rocky's submission, which was in a major key. There are a million kinds of 'sad' and I felt this piece was, for the most part, self explanatory. Musicians with experience tend to understand this approach to sad pieces pretty well.
Glad you liked it though

This is going to be a tough one to beat for the MAC8 contest... Good luck.

-Air and Rain-

"Great"

submission: -Air and Rain-
date: July 27, 2008

I liked this piece. There was just enough variety to keep it interesting. SFX rain is being used a lot nowadays, but I am not complaining as I always feel it adds something to a song.

Keep up the good work.

I normally hate songs that are written in major keys, but this is good. Excellent piano-playing skills. The recording quality is also very good. Did you get this recorded in a studio?

Keep writing music

Author's Response:

I recorded this using an mp3 player and a line-in record feature - Lyra something... thanks for the ten man :-) i'm only 13 and I find normal piano lessons so boring so I decided to write my own pieces.

Well, trance really isn't my favorite genre... but this song affected me more than any song I've listened to before.

I don't no what to say. Great work.

Sadness and Sorrow v.2

"Cool."

date: June 17, 2008

Hey, I really like this song, but if you're looking for ways to improve it, I think you should increase the volume of the strings in the background. I didn't even notice them before reading your comments.

Author's Response:

I made sure they were quiet as to not overpower the piano. In hindsight, however, it seems that doing so may have been a mistake. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Well, I have a policy of reviewing people who review me, so here it is. Unfortunately my review will probably not be as long or as helpful as your review, because the only thing I have to say is that this song rocks. It loops very well, too. I really don't have any suggestions for you. Hopefully one day my music will be as good as yours!

June 17, 2008

Author's Response:

Hahaha, thank you for the kind words! It is very flattering to know that people actually look up to my music. I have always been inspired by artists such as MilkManDan, WinterWind-NS, Bosa, MaestroRage and SmartPoetic. Never did I imagine that people would say they hope their music to be as good as mine!

Thank you for the review, friend. :)

~BlazingDragon

PS. That is an awesome policy! I think I might adopt that because I like it so much. I always make sure to look at the profile of those who review me and to at least listen to their music. I have not made a conscious effort to leave reviews for them all, though.

Well, you asked for honest critique, so here goes. To me this song really feels like it is missing something. This was a major problem that I had to deal with when I started out writing music. There needs to be more in the background to make the song sound "full" and not empty. In most music there is A LOT of noise going on in the background that you don't really notice unless your listening for it. It could be something as simple as just adding long chords, but there needs to be something to make the music feel less empty.

Also, you have a repeating part throughout the entire song, and to me it feels like it's too noticeable. What you are adding/changing underneath the repeating part sounds a lot more interesting, and you should try to bring that to the foreground and have the repeating part fade into the background.

It's not bad for a first submission. Keep writing music and I'm sure you'll make progress!

Author's Response:

Sweet! Thanks man! I do agree that it's missing something, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe adding those subtle things could help. =D

I really like this song. It's soft, yet captivating... Also, it loops very well. It took me a while before I even realized the song had looped.. lol. Would definitely work great as the background to a game. 5/5 9/10

|CMF| A Little Beat

"Ding noise?"

date: June 13, 2008

Is there supposed to be a DING! noise every couple seconds? It sounds like your using a demo of something which makes a noise every so often... It really takes away from the song.

Fix that and your song's rating should improve.
